small things lately that have gone unmentioned, but not unnoticed. . .
B almost passed swimming today. She told me when she got home, “I did airplane [floating on their backs with their arms out to their sids] but then I did wiggle.” But she’s close enough that they had someone come watch to see if she could pass. Big almost swimming girl; she’s very proud of herself.
The other night as we ate dinner out in the courtyard, C looked up and said, “When the moon is up here it is day on the other side of the world.” Yes it is oh wise 4 year old. So I asked what happened when the moon went down here. “Then it goes up on the other side of the world.” But of course. So his brother says that it’s a half moon tonight. “Oh my! There’s only half a moon?!?” I panicked, what can I say
“No, there is always a whole moon.” So I asked why I could only see half. “Because the earth is blocking the light from the sun. We’re like a big shadow.” I may not remember 6 very well but I’m pretty sure that would not have been my answer.
The disaster that is our living space is still dominating our lives. I can’t wait for the floor to be done. It is
almost, almost done. Now we need to put down new moulding and then - the biggie - rearrange the room. Before if was a sunken living room with a smaller room beside it. Two sides of the sunken room had railings. Now it is one smooth expanse and furniture can go anywhere. It’s almost overwhelming in the possibilities. The boys spent hours yesterday with little plastic animals setting up habitats (their word not mine) and deciding which animals were preditors.
