Goooooooooooal!

So this week we’ve had soccer camp. It’s at the Y but run by another company; I’m really impressed. They didn’t get nearly enough people, but instead of the usual move of canceling the whole thing, the coach has done an amazing job of blending extremely different age groups together. There was supposed to be 3-4 yo, 4-5 yo, 6-8 yo and 9-12 yo groups. Instead they got a total of 10 children. Our 4.5 is the youngest and the oldest is 11. Soccer just isn’t that popular in Arizona and no one really wants to be outside when it’s 113 degrees.

On Monday, C stayed 90 minutes, which was supposed to be the length of his group, and then said he was ready to go. I was amazed he made it that long. It’s tough to run with kids who’s legs are almost as long as you are tall. He was amazing.

The coach seems to be a homeschooler at heart. Every night he’s given the kids random homework. It only takes a few minutes to do but I like the fact that they have something to look up. The first day the kids were split into two teams and each team picked a country to be. The boys are both on the German team. The first night they were supposed to find out where it is and look up its flag.

Tuesday C stayed the full three hours with D. That’s a lot of running on little legs. Of course D then went off to three hours of gymnastics Tuesday night! That’s a whole lotta exercise. Then had a lot of fun though. They are really loving soccer camp. Between 9 – 12 soccer and 3:30 to 6:30 gymnastics it didn’t leave much time for anything else. While D was at gymnastics I took C and B shopping. We went to a teacher supply store for a few things – a balance and a few games. We also went to Staples for there 1 cent sale. Pack of pencils, pencil sharpeners, etc were 1 penny. We also bought some workbooks. C picked them out. He likes to do them. He keeps asking us to “teach him stuff”; he doesn’t seem to accept that he’s learning all the time.
