The Good, The Bad and The Brainless

TV. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Some days I really think we should unplug it, get rid of it, use it for a big doorstop. It sucks up so much time that could be spent doing other things. It’s mind numbingly bad much of the time. But then you have days when the kids watch their first Liberty Kid’s about the Revolutionary War and then go build ships out legos for a battle. Today was a TV day; hours of it (cringe). But it’s hot here. Like ridiculously hot and they only want so many stories read or to play for just so many hours. They used to watch somewhat educational TV; then they started wanting to watch nothing but superheroes and my opinion of TV headed south. Last night I went through TIVO and found some new shows to try. Today was back to Zula Patrol (science show – today’s episodes about sound waves and orbiting satellites), which they used to love. D watched Time Warp Trio for the first time and thought it was pretty cool. We also have a few documentaries on earth and the formation of the solar system.

Days with way too much TV interspersed with days with none at all; it usually averages out. Today TV made them think new thought and brought them new areas to explore. Today I’m OK with it.
