Here We Are

It’s been a while since we went to the Arizona Science Center. We arrived just in time to see the 3D deep sea movie. We got to wear the really sweet giant glasses, how often do we get to do that? The kids thought it was great. Little fish and big fish floating right there in front of them. They tried to reach out and touch them throughout the whole thing. The predators seemed to jump right for us, that seemed a little too real for the group. When the movie was over we went up to see the new Crime Scene Insect exhibit. There was a lot of reading and not much doing or seeing, there wasn’t enough hands on fun for us. We decide to say goodbye to the bugs and move onto our next adventure. We had heard of the elusive paper airplane room. We were going to find it today. It was on the 3rd floor the whole time and we never made it to that side. The first Building whirly flyers thing we did was make paper helicopters with the help of some volunteers. Then they showed us how to launch the helicopter from an air vent. The kids had a great time exploring aerodynamics, propulsion and wind resistance can make a really fun toy. The boys found a pair of chairs hooked up to a pulley system and tried to race each other to see how fast they pull the chairs up with them on the chairs. B thought it was fun to talk other people into pulling her up in the chair. After playing with the pulleys, we found the weight on the fulcrum. C and B found that their combined weight of 50 lbs could move the 300 lb block as long as they had a fulcrum big enough. Our time in the fun room came to an end as we played with the centrifugal force machines they had there. First B spun using her own muscles to propel her self around in a circle and C was rolling marble in a giant funnel showing how gravity acts on things in motion ( just like the marble on the roulette wheel). As we were leaving the museum we stopped in front of the TV and projection area that showed us our bodies in motion. That seemed like a good time for us to put our bodies in motion to the door. After all the things we had done in the Science Center the kids didn’t even get to play with the paper airplane launcher. Well next time we get to the Science center we can play with paper airplanes and see how far they can fly.
