Vacation Day 4

Too tired to write much, but I’m trying not to skip days (then it’s hard to remember). We headed into New York again. We_DSC2435flickr.jpg had planned on going to the Central Park Zoo today but we didn’t get into the city until almost lunch time. We parked at the AMNH again and walked across the street to Central Park. We just wandered the paths a little way in. We stopped and ate lunch in the grass. The kids got to doing donkey kicks, hand stands and cartwheels and then they wanted us to join in. We walked over and looked at a statue of a 14th century Polish king (can’t remember who) and Turtle Pond. B was quite impressed with Belvedere Castle, which looked like somewhere for a princess to live.

On the walk back, the kid’s wanted to go into the playground. Part of me wanted to say no, that we had things to do in New York that we couldn’t do at home and that we’d just spent an hour rolling in the grass. But twenty minutes on the playground did them a world of good. Lots of fun.

We did finally get to the AMNH. B fell asleep through most of it again. We went through the magical creatures exhibit again and then walked through the dinos. We were pretty done after than but got on a long stretch of African mammals to American birds to something to Peoples of the Polynesian Islands or something and on and one. We had to head all the way back to turn around. And then I wanted to see the Hall of Minerals two floors down. We had to go through Human Evolution (lots of, ‘but how do they know we used to look like that?!?’) and the Hall of Meteorites (cool that a big one was from Arizona - D figured it out from the map) to get to the Hall of Minerals. We did a quick run around there but it wasn’t nearly as exciting as I thought it would be. Although the thought the petrified wood was cool, especially since it was labeled from Arizona again.

Home again to the pool. Well two out of three anyway. C fell asleep leaving the museum, slept all the way to Connecticut, slept carried into to a diner, slept through dinner, slept back into the car and carried into the house. We’ll see how early he’ll be up tomorrow.

Going to NYC with my family is a dream trip of mine…I grew up in NJ and have always wanted to go back and have fun there with my kids. It’s fun reading about your adventures there and nice to know it can be done with 3 small kids!

Definitely can be done with kids and we’re having a great time, just needs to be a slightly different schedule. There is very much to do in New York that we could spend weeks just wandering.

I’m glad you are enjoying reading about our adventures, we are certainly enjoying having them.
