Vacation Day 5

We had meant to go into the city today. We were going to do the really touristy stuff – Statue of Liberty, wander the Village (mommy wants to hit Tea & Sympathy . . . mmmmm), get a big slice of pizza, maybe FAO Schwartz. But today had a slow, slow start. It was almost 90 degrees and close to 100% humidity; we were slow moving. The kids spent to morning swimming and playing with a slinky they found. They laughed, they giggled, they squealed; grandpa has lots of stairs and they had a blast.

We decided to head to the aquarium again since it’s only one city over. But that plan somehow never happened either and time went by. Finally some cousins came over at 3:30 and we still hadn’t left for the day.

So the day was spent playing, swimming, playing, diving, jumping, giggling.

My first impression, after admiring my adorable grandchildren, of course, is always how green the green is there. AZ green can never match the intensity. Your days have been packed full of fun and learning. I still admire and marvel at all the opportunities you find to teach. Looking at the photos of the “dinosaur” museum I became quite nostalgic remembering our trip with Declan when he was only two and how his knowledge of dinosaurs had already surpassed mine. As always, I couldn’t help but wish that I was there sharing in the fun. I must admit that I too would not venture into the water. Just looking at the bleak gray sky told me it was too cold for me. Although I remember swimming in the St. Lawrence River as a child and the time spent in the water was determined by how blue our lips were. It seems that no matter what is available a playground and a large expanse of grass offer limitless enjoyment. I loved the little bare feet. Grandma
