Symphony Hall

We went to the the symphony today. I just heard about the symphony for the schools that the Phoenix Symphony puts on throughout the year. Very inexpensive tickets and a short, one-hour concert made it perfect for little kids. Today they didWhat was your favorite? several short pieces to teach about the different types of instruments – strings, woods, brass and percussion. Kids had a good time – got a little wiggly. Afterward they were telling us about their favorite instruments. D and B both liked the violins best. C liked the drums although he did not like the piece they played to emphasize the drums: it was too scary sounding. We also talked about why they have so many instruments that are the same – violin, viola, cello, bass. We talked about the fact that the larger the part that vibrates (strings, drum head, etc) the deeper the sound. We had quite a good time walking to lunch while changing the sounded of our voice with our fingers on our throats to feel that our vocal cords vibrate to make sound too.

We’ve been fighting something off. All three fell asleep on the way home.
