Little Thespians

We were planning on getting ready to go to San Diego on Sunday. But then we remembered that we had a workshop with Childsplay. Since we were scheduled for a workshop but hadn’t seen the play yet we checked to see if there were tickets. Daddy and grandma too them to the workshop while I stayed home to work. They were working on acting like animals. D was a sting ray and cross the floor on his stomach using his elbows. C was a jaguar with a very meowy-roar. B was a butterfly that soared through the air. They had a lot of fun. It was more than just “pretend to be an animal” but how do you move like one, talk like one, walk like one.

After the workshop, I met them to watch Charlotte’s Web and daddy went home to work. Charlotte’s Web was brilliant, of course. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything by Childsplay that wasn’t. They’re are fun and funny without being condescending – sometimes a difficult feet when attending events for children. Everyone was great but Templeton the Rat was in a class of his own; truly endearing. After the play we stayed for th backstage tour. I think it is my ‘how and why’ kids favorite part of the experience. How did Templeton keep popping our of the hay? Oh, there’s a whole egg and a broken egg as props? The backstage tour was given by Wilbur. While Wilbur did a great job, he will always be Horton [from Horton Hears a Who] in my eyes (even though we’ve seen him in other things). All I have to do is look at the man and I hear, “A person’s a person  no matter how small . . .”
