Making Ghosts

After a very busy weekend, including D having a birthday party to go to on Saturday, it was time to settle down to someMade By Me crafting. We spend some time on Monday and Tuesday making art together. D made his own thank you cards; he stamped them, glued on a ribbon and then wrote the thank you. Considering all the kids at his party – and his reluctance to write – it was a big undertaking. He did a great job. He much preferred making the cards to actually having to write in them. It’s crafting, writing practice and manners all rolled into one. Plus decision-making and creativity since he picked out the stamps and ribbon.

Ghost Feet  She Love Pink  Not So Spooky Ghosts  Mommy's Ghosts  Ghost Foot

While he was writing thank yous, the rest of us began our second annual ghost feet making. I had read somewhere about tracing your foot so that the heel looks like a head and the toes look like the trailing sheet blowing in the wind. We used foam last year and attached googly eyes. The best part was not necessarily the ghost but having little copies of their feet to keep. This year we used white foam again but go much more creative with our ghost creation. I pulled down the tub containing the googly eyes and everyone spotted glitter glue. Who doesn’t need some more glitter glue in their lives? Daddy thought C’s looked like Charlie Brown’s ghost. I didn’t remember the reference and the kids didn’t know who Charlie Brown was so . . . over to the book nook. Grandma has given us a lot of my old books; many have been read but some just got shelved and integrated into all our other stuff. I knew we had some Charlie Brown’s and I found “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” So we all piled in the book nook to read while daddy continued to cut out our traced feet. I had forgotten about poor CharlieHalloween Wreath cutting too many holes in his sheet and having to many eyes for his ghost. C’s many-eyed ghost did look like Charlie Brown’s. We also had a very creative hot pink ghost, solid red ghosts, mommy’s boring old white ghosts and daddy’s ripped sheet effect.

We finished up by making a Halloween wreath, or starting it anyway. We took a black feather boa and attached it to a wire frame. Very Halloweeny. Now we just need to decorate. We have one purchased spider web to attach but the rest we’ll make a stick on as the month goes on.
