Weekend in Willcox

Fancy Seeing You Here

We spent last weekend in Willcox with grandma. I’d never really heard of Willcox but it comes up every time you look forPanning for Gold u-pick fruit or veggies in the state. We wanted to go apple picking and decided to go away. We drove down Saturday morning and spent the day at Old Tucson. Their known for their staged fights and the films made there; the ids thought the best part was panning for gold and driving the cars . . . round . . . and round . . . and round. I think we went on the car ride about 10 times. D was actually tall enough to drive so C and B both wanted to ride with him. From Old Tucson we drove to Willcox; I had no it takes every body to pull the wagonidea it was so far. It’s basically the corner of New Mexico and Mexico.

We got up Sunday morning and went to a farm called Apple Annie’s Orchard. We spent the morning picking apples (granny smith) and asian pears. I’ve never really liked asian pears but these were delicious with juice dripping down your arm. The farm encouraged sampling so we all got to pick and taste. After picking 20 lbs of apples and 20 lbs of asian pears, we headed over the the sister farm that  has u-pick veggies and pumpkins. The kids ended up with about 150 lbs (seriously) of giant pumpkins. They had a great time choosing them and pushing the wheel barrow – or trying to. After they decided the had enough pumpkins we went on the hay ride. Then we headed back to the orchard for lunch. A giant lunch and two take home pies later, we finally decided to call it a day.

  1. Good Karen

I love Old Tucson. My mom worked there for awhile. Did you stay for Night Fall?

    Apple Annie’s is great too.

No we didn’t stay until Night Fall; they were doing Halloween and it was recommended for older kids – looked pretty scary. Plus it was hot. Super hot. Even for Tucson hot. We had a good time at Apple Annie’s orchard and farm though.
