So while most of us went to Tucson, C just plain didn’t want to go. Grandma happened to be here shopping while we were getting ready and swooped in to rescue him. Rather than coming to Tucson with us to spend hours sitting on bleachers, he headed up to grandma and papa’s for the weekend. Everyone - especially middle children - can use a little more one-on-one time.
From grandma:
Even though our little homebody, C, was not too enthusiastic about going to Tucson and opted to spend the weekend with us; we were a little concerned that he might get bored, lonely or homesick. Especially, since I was committed to attend a charity event on Fri. eve and to work the entire weekend. Here is a recounting of his weekend which I think could be termed an exercise in indulgence, mostly by your father I might add . Friday eve was pasta for dinner, ice cream and the first installment of Star Wars. Breakfast Sat. was four scrambled eggs and ham. For lunch Papa made him tortellini with sauce. When C didn’t like the sauce he made him more with only parmesan cheese. When he didn’t like that he made him plain pasta. Then a ham and cheese sandwich for a snack with more ice cream. I arrived home from work to find an entire squadron of paper airplanes; some of which C declared as x-wing fighters, imperial starships, even a millenium falcon. It seems Papa has hidden talents as an aeronautics designer. They had also played computer games, made models with moon sand, practiced writing, did art, watched Tom and Jerry (sorry Mommy), built houses with M’s old lincoln logs and more events which it seems I have already forgotten. After Star Wars, popcorn, a shower, massage and a story it was time for bed. Sun. was off to the lodge for a breakfast of one and a half Mickey Mouse pancakes and hot chocolate. Papa said other diners looked on in amazement as our little man wolfed down so much food. Then home again for more of the activities of the day before including play time outside in the slushy snow. When I got home we made sugar cookies. He measured and mixed, I rolled and cut and he put on the sprinkles-lots and lots of sprinkles. I thought that he wouldn’t eat dinner after a couple of cookies and was feeling rather guilty but he ate a chicken breast and side dishes. More Star Wars, more massage and story. This morning back to the lodge for breakfast - not very hungry today only one dinner plate sized MM pancake. Then off to the lumber yard for supplies. A big treat to ride in Papa’s pickup truck. He was thrilled to see Daddy and sibs when they came but we think he had a good time. After all everyone deserves a little pampering now and then. Hopefully, he will remember something of his weekend with Papa as time goes on. We had a good time too; but, Papa said he will need to rest up before his next solo weekend of fun.
Monday daddy took B and D up to pick up C. Happily there was snow. Not much but more than enough to thrill the desert dwellers.
YET AGAIN, PICTURES TO BE POSTED
