Brief Moments Of Togetherness

We started the day swimming. I’ve been forgetting to comment on that. But having a pool right out your door makes for lots Cannonballof quick swims – one before breakfast, one before or after siesta – sometimes both, one before bed.

Today we hit the little breakfast place across the street. They are narrow streets with tiny sidewalks so it is about 15 feet away - a good distance with hungry kids. Scrambled eggs and ham seem to be big around here and that is something even the fussy one will eat. Rolls served with deep, dark honey are also a winner. The kids pick and chose from the fruit plate as well. My favorite was the morning that B decided her favorite part of the complete breakfast was the black beans. So she sang the yummy song over smashed black beans sprinkled with queso, drinking fresh squeezed orange juice and going back and forth between watermelon and cantaloupe on the fruit plate. It is not the 3 yo who is fussy. She may be one of the world’s teeny tiniest little humans but the girl can eat.

Merida has an amazing number of museums and art galleries. I had wanted to see at least a few but so far we’d been recovering from travel, swimming and going to bed really early. Today we headed off to find some museums. In a city with a natural history museum, museum of the city, anthropology museum contemporary art museums and more I can’t remember, I figured anything would be great. We got a little detoured on the way however and ended up going in and out of shops.Shapes

Finally we ended up at MACAY Museum, which is a contemporary art museum. Specializing in Mexican artists and especially Yucantan artists, the museum has a nice selection of various types of art. They also host an annual sculpture exhibition of Yucatan artists and sculptors from one other country: this year is was Japan. A couple of hours of contemporary art later we headed to lunch. Kids were tired of art and we were looking for something to take back to the hotel and we ended up with pizza para llavar. So pizza, more cartoon in Spanish and some more swimming pretty much rounded out the day.
