Swimming With The Dolphins (Mexico post catch-up)

Posted by on February 1, 2008

[This is a very belated post from our trip to Mexico. We've gotten so busy with real life that I'm falling behind getting the second week of photos uploaded and I'm waiting for the movie to be up to link here . . . but as weeks go by I've decided just to post this. I'll update once we get video.]

We did have one big adventure with the family on vacation in Mexico this year. We got to swim with some dolphins. Everyone had a great time. We separated into a couple groups according to age. Many places won’t let kids get in the water unless they are 8 or 12; this place allowed even small children to get in and interact. Every one was able to get into the water and pet the dolphins. The littler kids could hug and kiss the dolphins. None of the little kids seemed to be to sure about kissing the dolphins at first – they are a lot bigger than many people think. It sounded good when we told them they would kiss a dolphin, but kissing a dolphin is like kissing a fish. B, who is 3, and C, who is 5, both got to go in this group with some of their cousins. The middle aged kids, which D was in with a few more cousins, had a chance to snorkel with the dolphins. D had a fun time doing that, but he really enjoyed when the dolphins pushed him on a boogie board. The kids went really fast with the dolphins pushing them. D also enjoyed having a splash fight with the dolphins. The really kids and all the grown ups not in the water with little people got to really swim with the dolphins. The highlight of their swim was when two dolphins would push them actually lifting them out of the water. The kids seemed to glide above the water. The adults in the group seem to have a little more trouble resisting gravity. Every body had a good time with the dolphins.
