Yes We Can

About a month ago I had found Electoral Compass. It’s a political questionnaire that compares your answers to those of the major candidates for president to give you an idea where your ideas fall. Of course several weeks ago this made more sense considering there were still several candidates for each party. I email it to daddy and he filled it out as well. I slowly went through all the complex questions with D - at his insistence - so that he could fill it out as well. This was truly an act of patience on his part. Imagine all the explanatory steps necessary to get a 7 yo to make a judgment call on whether or not the Patriot Act violates civil rights. What’s the constitution? Civil rights? Patriot Act? Terrorism? You get the idea. It was complex (I blogged about it briefly already here)

D is quite taken with politics, always has been. He’s quite taken with the fact that the quiz told him who agrees with him most often. It personalized it for him. So he’s watching Obama’s progress. Wants to know how he’s doing. Of course the idea of a primary - a sort of election where the votes don’t definitely count - to chose a candidate to then run for president confuses him. Then again, getting into caucuses vs primaries, delegates vs superdelegates and the completely arbitrary nature of the contest confuses me too.

Anyway, I found this video on DipDive last week but that was before I cold get videos to link. I have hit her from youtube because I haven’t been able to get DipDive up all day - maybe it’s too busy? I think it’s an amazing video. In and of itself, it’s very well done. I like the speech, setting it to music makes it seem even more dynamic. But one of the things I find the most amazing is the story behind it. That will.i.am, lead singer of the Black Eyes Peas, just decided to set this speech to music, called some friends and in two days had this video. Had agents, record labels, etc gotten involved this would have taken forever while everyone argued over exactly how many second they got to be on video. Imagine what could be accomplished if artists were given more creative freedom?
