Yahtzee!

May 10th, 2008 · No Comments

We used to play board games before D was born. Then the kids came. and its hard to play board games when your babies keep grabbing the pieces off the board. Then when games come back out its Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Orchard. We play a lot of board games. They are great for teaching counting, colors, math, taking turns, losing graceful or cooperating, reading and having fun.  Now D is getting into the idea of playing games with us; he’s recently developed a poker obsession (pure math). So we got out the Yahtzee game. He was a little reluctant at first, until we told him that it was like poker with dice - traights, 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind and a full house. What another great was to teach the kids statistics and probability. Plus, like most games it can be played to everyone’s ability. B, who’s 3.5 was happy to be on my team and be my dice roller, while D and Daddy teamed up and worked on strategy and counting up the dice. We had one hold out that went and did his own thing . . . maybe next time.
