You Can Ring My Bell

It’s been awhile since we did a science experiment. The kids have all been into doing their own things. We decided to give them a little push in the science direction, to try to get them all doing the same thing together. We let D pick the experiment from one of our science kits. He found one involving electricity. I know what you are thinking, 3 kids and electricity just don’t mix. We began by striping wires and folding tin foil. We spliced the red and yellow wires together and the black and yellow wires next. We couldn’t find any electrical tape to attach the wires to the power source, so I hoped the clear tape was enough to insulate us from the electrical current. We were finally ready. We took the pieces into the kids room and began to put the parts together and attached them to the door. It worked! The door alarm worked. One side of the spliced wires were attached to the batteries to power a buzzer and the other side of the wires were attached to two pieces of tin foil that was taped to the door. When the door was opened the 2 pieces of tin foil touched which completed the circuit to power the buzzer that made the noise to alert the kids that someone was coming into their room. I had to remove the door alarm because the kids were having fun completing the circuit and making the very loud noise from the buzzer.
