I got an enormous delivery of Barefoot Books the other day. The kids have been having a good time with the increase in library. B was quite fond of Who Are You, Baby Kangaroo? From piglets (baby pigs) to cygnets (baby swans), a puppy runs around asking if anyone knows the name of the baby kangaroo. A very cute introduction to the names of different baby animals.
C, our cat obsessed child, loved Where’s The Cat?, which he could “read” to himself. It’s a simple hide and seek book but the equally simple words (up, on, in) appealed to his sense of learning to read. He also loved Kick Knack Paddy Whack. After reading the book twice, we put on the cd and sang it through several more times. He loved that each of the new numbers was a child playing an instrument and that the cd played the music to match.
D spent his story time listening to Harry Potter on cd - who doesn’t love Jim Dale? D is actually up to book 5. He joined the others for their bedtime stories though. We decided to read a fairy tale from Storytime: First Tales for Sharing. What started as The Cock, the Mouse and the Little Red Hen, which is a fairy tale from France, turned into The Gingerbread Man (England), The Ugly Duckling (Denmark), and Stone Soup (Switzerland). The anthology demonstrated one of my favorite things about Barefoot Books - great diversity.

i just wanted to tell you how much i enjoy your blog. when my first, sevilla, was born in feb i was encouraged to get on this blog thing by some friends. i had no idea what a world exists. after a few months of baby blogging for family living in other states, i decided to create one just for myself. i stumbled upon your blog, i dont remember how, and couldnt stop reading it. i managed in the last few days during naps to read every single post.
we live in phoenix and we too would like to homeschool but it seems so overwhelming to think about sometimes. i am truly inspired by your posts and your fantastic days. i have made a HUGE list of resources compiled from things you have mentioned and will be ’stealing’ ideas for future learnings to come. i have a million questions and you have helped to answer some. it seems a million years away before sevilla will be doing these things but time goes by so fast i am trying to absorb to be prepared. i look forward to continuing to read your adventures and perhaps meeting you on one someday.
thank you again!

Latisha,
Thanks so much for your kind comments. I’m glad you enjoy our ramblings. Steal away - it’s how we all get ideas. If you ever have questions, just ask!
A lot of homeschooling is a mindset. So even if they are young it isn’t too early to start thinking of how you interact with the world. And best of luck to you.
Karen
