So we’ve yet to post all about our big trip to San Fran and Sonoma. I like to wait until I have the pictures uploaded rather than going back but all my picture time has been spent working. So I’m just skipping ahead to introduce the idea of more travel, big travel, crazy travel.
About two months ago the kids asked if we’d see their cousins again this summer. Last year we spent a week in Connecticut, traveled into NYC and had a blast. We hadn’t planned on it, but the more we thought about it, the more it seemed like a good idea. We’ve always stayed here in the summer. Why travel when everyone else does if you homeschool? Why fight crowds when you aren’t stuck with a schedule? Of course that has left us in Arizona every summer. So why not travel? We started thinking a road trip would be doable (gas was a bit cheaper even two months ago) rather than five airline tickets and that way we could see stuff along the way.
When we had finally talked ourselves into the Arizona to Connecticut driving adventure, a little person asked, “And are we going to see our Florida cousins too?” ummmm, why not? So the planning of the grand adventure began. Here to Florida, Florida to Connecticut, and back again.
The loose plan is:
Carlsbad Caverns, NM
Alamo, TX
New Orleans, LA
Clearwater, FL
Atlanta, GA
Washington DC
Durham, NC
Stamford, CT
Anything a must see along that path, near those stops, close by that we haven’t thought of? For now we are trying to finish up work before we go. Get unpacked and cleaned up from a week away and get read to pack again. The National Weather Service has a heat advisory out for our area going out as many days as they’ll predict. 10 – 12 degrees above normal Arizona summer temps is hot. Too hot. I think it’s time to hit the road.

Hello. Ive left comments before. I’m glad to hear you just werent aware, and not ignoring us :)
What about when you come back home, are you going through Nebraska? There are some really great places to stop for history on the prairie days, like covered wagons and log homes, as in laura ingalls. It is fun and educational!
Nope not ignoring, for some reason they stopped showing up. When I reloaded comments magically appeared. We haven’t really planned the trip back yet. We’re hoping to maximize our time near NYC (the American Museum of Natural History was the kids’ dinosaur museum growing up and we’ve never made it to the MET) and then race back cross country. The boys one day a week homeschool program starts on the school schedule with is super early in AZ – first week of August.
Thanks for the info. I never knew Nebraska was Laura Ingalls territory. I’m not sure where I thought it was to be honest. If we head that way, we’ll look around.
