Rather than driving north to Durham our friends decided to drive down at meet us. We swam a little this morning at our hotel and then met our friend’s Mike and Erin, and their daughter, at the North Carolina Zoological Park. We had a good time wandering the zoo, but we were late meeting our friends. We are used to judging time by the highways on our trip, but there were only back roads to the zoo. When we got in we found that they have some great animal habitats. We started by the zebras and giraffes who were just hanging around in the sun. As we followed the path to the chimps the humid air slowed us down. The lack of the chimps playing in the trees let us know that they could feel the humid air also and were doing everything they could to stay cool. We wandered the paths of the zoo finding the lions and chimps staying in the shade in their exhibits. That day seemed extra hot because we are not used to the humidity, the Arizona kids find the humidity tiring. The walking path finally led us to the elephants. They were right in front of us, it seemed like they were only ten feet away. There was an adult and a baby elephant playing in the water, cooling off from the heat. The kids all wanted to know why they couldn’t jump in the water with the elephants. The kids thought it was really funny how low the elephants could get in the water. That seemed like a good time to leave the zoo and get a milkshake for the car ride to Mike and Erin’s. The boys thought that Mike’s Xbox games were fun. The best game was a crash, race game where you got more points the more you crashed. B was in her element though. She got to play dress up with another girl, who knew the finer points of accessorizing with sparkly things and PINK! They dressed up as cheer leaders and princesses. It was great! At last it was time for bed.
