On The Road, Day 17, 18, 19: Stamford, CT, aka Grandpa’s House

Posted by on July 17, 2008

We’re here. We made it. Think big house, more cousins than a small village, some of them having friends over, aunts, uncles, swimming pool, capture the flag, and scavenger hunts. Swim, swim, swim from breakfast ’til bed with breaks in between to play. We’ve been so busy we haven’t posted.

The first few days were spent swimming all day. Running, leaping into the pool with up to ten kids here. Pure pandamonium – they had a blast. One of their cousins likes to capture bees. Sounds crazy, but they’ve had a wonderful time making jars and bottles with holes in the lids, filling them with flowers and making a bee habitat. Then the went down the hill from grandpa’s to the beach and caught tiny crabs to put in a huge bowl with sea water and rocks. Tonight they moved on to catching fireflies. B was delighted and it seemed a much better use of their skills than risking bee stings.

And we finally got settled enough to begin a little reading. We hadn’t brought a lot of books with us – so it’s been many, many readings of Who Are You Baby, Baby Kangaroo?; Bad Kitty; Knick Knack, Paddy Whack and the purchased on the road WALL-E Smash Trash and Fancy Nancy. Now that we’re here we’ve started The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We’re only managing about one chapter every two or three day, but considering how busy we’ve been it isn’t bad.
