I See The Moon

September 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Tonight is the 15th day of the 8th lunar month - mid Autumn Festival in China. We’ve been reading some books about the Moon Festival (Moon Festival, Red Eggs & Dragon Boats, Moonbeams, Dumplings & Dragon Boats, Round is a Mooncake, I Took the Moon For A Walk). Even if you are unfamiliar with the Chinese Moon Festival, most people have heard the autumn moon referred to as a harvest moon as an especially big, bright moon.

The grownups have been taking turns walking the dog after the kids go to bed (it may be mid September, but it just starting to cool off by 9 or 10 here). Tonight we all went out to see the bright moon and decided to take a stroll. The moon was bright enough to cast shadows. If you missed it tonight, go out tomorrow. It will still be amazing.

Tomorrow we’re going for dim sum. Hopefully they’ll still be serving mooncakes.

You have a dog??? Interesting to read this on your blog - the moon thing, not the dog thing. Although, I do want to hear more about this dog… Anyway, I was sitting outside a few nights ago thinking I’d never seen a more beautiful moon. We woke up Boo to show her because it was so amazing.

See I’m a constant source of knowledge, right? The moon was very cool that night. And yes we have a dog. If you’d have headed our way last time you were here you’d have met her. She’s a half yellow lab, half golden retriever puppy. Goofy, happy, goofy. Every read the book about Marley? Pretty close :)
